My issue with the costume is she pulled it together from a bunch of vintage shops. It wouldn’t withstand combat. I think it would look rad on Steph, because I do like the design, just… not on Babs.

Oh, I agree! It’s a weird recession for Babs. I have this general issue with DC lately — molding classic (“popular”) characters into molds they don’t fit to fill the void and/or roles left by perfectly good characters they already have but refuse to utilize.

If this was Batgirl Year One, I’d feel a lot better about it. But it’s not. I like the costume because it is less sexualized, but on the same token, you can have a grown up and well-armored costume that isn’t sexualized, too.

I actually like Barbara’s new costume for the upcoming reboot, however they way her face is drawn makes her look way young. Younger than a college kid, for sure.

And given some of the promo material, I’m afraid they’re going to go too trendy with it in an attempt to attract female readers with hipster and Instagrammy vibes.

We’re already reading. Girls like comics.

And yes there are things we want and things that need to change, but I can pretty much say without fear of contradiction that we don’t want trendy.

I guess we’ll see when the book comes out, but..eh. As much as I love Gail, the New52 Batgirl run lost its appeal to me like, a year ago. The art didn’t click with me, I think, among just it..feeling off.

"Of course," Barbara proclaims with a confident, playful sort of tone. Her hand slip away from his face, if reluctantly.

"Working in libraries, fighting crime…Same old story."

A little shift, a little closer.

"What about you, Man Wonder?”

Nothing to report, he murmurs, his voice creeping lower as Babs shuffles herself against his chest.

“Fighting crime, sans the library. I’m still not as dedicatedly nerdy as you are.

"No news is good news," by now, she has her head beneath his chin. Magnetic.

That’s what this is.

"Hey, you could stand to crack a book more often," Barbara teases, poking him gently in the chest.

She plays along, matching that dopey, lovestruck sort of look that’s too easy to fall into. Way too easy. Even after so long.

Barbara didn’t know if it was pathetic or kismet.

She was rooting for kismet.

"I dunno, you look awfully familiar..” teases Barbara, stroking her thumbs along the underside of his jaw.

Must be sign. We were meant to meet here. Dick’s hands slide up her back and pause to brush against the locks of hair settled against her shoulder blades.

After all this time." He grins softly. You been looking out for yourself, Batgirl?

Strong arms wrap around her waist, and Dick is tipping his head into the second kiss, lips pulled up at the corners. He can’t think of a better way to say ‘long time no see’—or maybe more accurately, ‘I missed you’.

If anyone could make Barbara melt, it’s him. Bringing her hands up to frame his jawline, she notices how he smiles against the kiss. Spontaneous and sweet.

Barbara pulls back just a little, lifting light eyes to his.

"Hey there."

Dick hooks his fingers together against the small of her back, easing away enough to stare into her eyes. They must look disgustingly sappy right now, and he wouldn’t have it any other way.

—”Hi. Have we—met? He fakes confusion, like two unconcerned strangers had just wordlessly engaged in an all out smooch-fest. It almost feels that way, with how long it had been.

The world stops when he kisses her. It always does. She smiles, and blinks slow, pressing her lips tighter together…Before she leans in for another.
